The present full-length film is a documentary portraying the life stories of some of the finalist candidates to the longest lasting trans beauty pageant of Latin America: the “Miss Amazonas.” We see how the contestants transform, not just their bodies, but also their self-image, involving a learning process of discovery, self-worth, (re)affirmation of gender identities and the image they want to project with their bodies. This documentary registers, witnessed from an intimate insider perspective, the different stages of the pageant: applicant casting, preliminary selection, the “beauty school,” photo session, and rehearsals before grand final gala, held at the Parthenon hotel where only one will be crowned as a beauty queen. We closely approach the lives of the candidates, between 18 and 22 years old, learn about their motivations to become beauty queens, the ideal woman, and the femininity behind their dreams and fears.
