ONE MIND is a cinematic meditation on life within one of modern China’s most austere and respected Zen monastic communities. In harmony with the land that sustains them, the monks at Zhenru Chan Monastery farm, grow tea, and maintain a daily liturgy and strict meditation schedule. Set in a remote high-mountain basin, ONE MIND is a journey through the inner landscapes of a contemplative life, where we learn that meditation is not just about peace and tranquility, but about confronting the self and engaging the true nature of reality. This feature-length documentary from Amongst White Clouds director Edward A. Burger was filmed over five years and four seasons, and is a portal into a centuries-old way of life largely unknown even to China’s public today.
